NEVER EVER ASSUME

In Self Help on October 14, 2012 at 11:51 pm

” Assume nothing, question everything ” – James Patterson

One key lesson, I have learned from life is to never assume anything. I have to also admit that I personally love making assumptions. I get a thrill from assuming things, as long as my assumptions don’t jeapardise my flow of life (ie. friendship development or well being). A lot of people make assumptions based on appearance and that is clearly shallow, since you can’t judge a book by it’s cover and you cannot be absolutely certain about anything without actual experience.

For me, a lot of the things I like, don’t relate to my appearance. My clothing style is smart and really casual. Behind my black skin, and dress code, is not a book worm or library worm, but a guy who loves hip hop, loves to write, loves the concept of travelling and a plane enthusiast. Also I really like being social with people, but if you saw me behind a white screen, you couldn’t predict those things about me. You would naturally have a list of ideas. I went out today, with my friends to Heathrow Airport to take pictures of planes, and we all dressed as if we were going to skate. We got a few weird looks since we didn’t have suitcases or big luggage bags, but once we all took out our camera phones, and SLR cameras, people were just thinking ‘plane spotters?’ The thing about that particular experience, is that we look like typical teenagers that would go out and skate (we do), go cinema, and play computer games. Actually, our interests and hobbies all centralised around planes and travelling, while we all have particular interests. One of my friends likes photography, another likes martial arts, another likes aviation, and I love to write.

When you assume, you are either trying to solve something quickly, move quickly from point A to point B or simply don’t feel secure with exploration. When I don’t assume, the journey of life becomes more interesting, because I notice things I would have never noticed, if I made a quick judgement. Also when you spend time getting to know people, not for their looks, but their character, you have more of a chance of meeting people that would be great friends of yours, best friends, potential boyfriends/girlfriends and just amazing people who could be life changing.

The question is why would you want to make an assumption on someone who you don’t know? Why don’t you want to forget about appearance, even though appearance is a natural occurrence in attraction? Maybe assume less, and explore more is the way forward.

EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON

In Self Help on September 12, 2012 at 8:27 pm

Everything in my life, has happened for a reason. Everything that has happened in your life, has happened for a reason.

I wonder how many people actually believe this amazing accusation. I definitely do. I notice that everyting in the world interconnects in some way that makes the world flow in the most extraordinary, most weird and most beautiful way. Of course many things happen in life that we regret, but if we changed the plan of life and could go back in time, what we experience now or later on in life could dramatically change.

Imagine, the time when you met your best friend, or caught the bus to work, or met your boyfriend or girlfriend for the very first time. Imagine what life would like if you shifted the pattern and path of your life for a split second. I bet you wouldn’t have done or achieved the thing that you have achieved now. That clearly shows that the world is so powerful in its connectiveness.

I went to college yesterday and I had no intention of meeting anyone. I got to college early, because I took an early bus which I just caught and met this person, who is now my friend. I caught the bus with a friend who goes to my church. I suspect that if I didn’t catch that bus, with my friend from church, I wouldn’t have laughed on the bus, or met my new friend at college who I get along with pretty well. The world is so strange in its design, it always seems to amaze me.

I live to be the best everyday. I live to go with the flow. I try to never regret or wish for another outcome. I just accept that this path of life, or this present experience is just powerful beyond measure. Life is beautiful, just the way it is. Why wish to go back and repair what is so fascinating?

WHY I DON’T GET ANGRY?

In Self Help on June 23, 2012 at 3:33 am

Why Don’t I Get Angry?

The law of attraction allows me to be positive in the most depressing and negative times. I may experience something that is really bad or supposedly negative, but because of the law of attraction, I am constantly the happiest man alive.

The law of attraction says that if you attract positivity, you get positive outcomes. If you attract negativity, you get negative outcomes. This works in all aspects of my life. If I am positive towards this post and think of this post as something life changing. It is more than likely to be life changing and motivating because of my positive attraction towards it.

I rarely ever get angry in my life, because when I have an experience, I only allow despair to be present for a couple minutes. If I am in despair, because of something very deep, I look at the situation, have sorrow and despair present in my soul, but my positivity keeps me moving and helps me find positive solutions that will slowly solve the puzzle that has been shuffled, separated and randomised.

This links to the fact that I am never really that fazed or disgusted by people, experiences or things in life. Some people call me mad and say ‘Derrick, do you ever feel like lashing out?’ I always tell them ‘Yes, always!’ The fact that we have many emotions, we are allowed to express negativity but if that dominates our lives, then we will be negative human beings that attract negative outcomes.

In addition, this links to everything we do in life. From doing an exam paper, to writing a book, to going to the gym and eating the right foods. If we are not willing to feed our soul with positivity, how do we attract positivity in our daily lives. Our success, is paved by the route we take to success, not the time taken to get there. If we worry about the time rather than the route and journey, we will get no where. If we look too deeply at the negatives in our dreams and hopes, we will never reach there or get the best result out of our chosen hopes and dreams.

So why don’t I get angry often? I just allow positivty to dominate my life. I never allow anyone to tell me negative things that diminish my chances of success. I keep an open mind so I can be critiqued and critical in my thinking. I use critique positively and I never think of myself as more important than anyone else. I am just one, like every other human being in the world. I just keep pushing for sucess and happiness, since despair and defeat are not in my vocabulary anymore.

We will feel sad and hurtful, sometimes pain, but that is just life. We are supposed to feel that when we experience challenges. Just fight it, and be the person on top. Start you day with something positive and finish it with something positive.

Perfection never teaches you. Despair and negative outcomes do, since they are not what you want. You are willing to learn from what you don’t want, since you want something greater. Something that fulfils your happiness, fills you with joy and purpose in life.

The Unpredictable Life

In Uncategorized on April 22, 2012 at 10:30 pm

NB. The people are made up

You know how people say life is unpredictable.

You make plans to do things and prepare the best you can, but it seems like nature doesn’t want to work with you, or see you through it. Nature comes along with its magic wand, lightsaber, or boxing gloves, and knocks you out, or simply releases you of energy, or control of your situation.

On many occasions, I wonder if life is unpredictable. I wonder if my life should be lived a certain way. I wonder if every little thing I do, will have a big effect on the outcome of my life. If I miss a bus, and catch the next one, will my whole life be changed forever? Or will the people I interact with or the simple things I change have a big effect on the outcome of my life or their life. I always question this ‘lifestyle’ or ‘human performance’ or this ‘living synchronicity’ that seems to exist among me and all the other humans that exist on this planet, called Earth. Who controls the outcome in our life? Is it us, or do other humans interfere with what is supposed to happen in our life. Again, it is a question to ask if life is supposed to be planned or forever unpredictable.

The Business Man:

Tom has starting capital of £1 million (savings) and has a unique business idea that is likely to be successful. He could be consulted by key business magnets in the industry about the viability of his business. He could make an exceptional business plan, and do his business risk assessments, known as a SWOT analysis, and could open up a fashion store in two years’ time. So Tom successfully started his business and the business made £2 million in revenue. It is forever growing.

The Traveller:

Lindsey is going from London, to New York. She has a flight at 08:00pm in the morning at London Heathrow, Terminal 5. She packs her bags two days before. Goes shopping the next day and buys all the essential goods needed for her trip. She gets to the airport, forgets her passport at home, and her flight leaves in one hour and a half. She has her phone but it is on red battery life, because she forgot to charge it overnight. Lindsey attempts to call home. Sadly, she can’t get in touch with anyone at home, after using her phone which dies and the customer service desk telephone. Lindsey has to go home, and she cannot replace her flight unless she pays a cancellation and reschedule fee of £200, which she doesn’t have because the purpose of her trip is to visit family. She only has $50 for a four day trip.

The Writer:

Ray, a really talented writer, completes a thriller novel, which has taken him six months of his life. He has suffered criticism from lots of people, who believe he won’t make it as a writer, and his work isn’t worthy, but Ray keeps going on and that has led him to the point where he is able to get his novel published by the Harper Collins. On the day of sending his manuscript, his laptop crashes and all of his valuable data is lost. His flash drive is connected to the laptop and his back up file containing his manuscript is deleted. He didn’t save it anywhere else except his flash drive and laptop. This was his living purpose since January.

The questions that make me wonder. Was the entrepreneur supposed to be successful? He planned really well. He forecasted his business plans and prepared effectively for the worse to come. He still had his home as an asset (worth £3 million), but didn’t have a job, because he quit his job to give his business venture, his full attention. If he failed, he wouldn’t be doing anything, and he would be valued at £3 million rather than £4 million, after spending £1 million on developing on his business idea. He was successful, and the worse didn’t occur. Lindsey didn’t make her flight, didn’t get to go on holiday, and lost all the money she has put into her trip (£400), leaving her with $50, which she hoped to spend in New York City. She simply went home with the bits of change she had. Was her life supposed to have ended up like that or was it all her fault and bad planning? Did an external force have control over her operations? Ray didn’t retrieve his files. He had to start from scratch again, and all his hard work went to waste. Was it really his time to publish, or was he supposed to be doing something else in his life. Or was he being protected from a bad outcome or an unfortunate event?

The feeling of life being predictable and unpredictable makes us question our reality and process of living. Do we live for a greater force or are we supposed to live and not plan? We can plan so much, but it takes something so little to destroy our own created forces that give us power and control. The essence of living is far from being known to man or woman, but if we did know, would we plan so much, or just live in the very second and not care about sudden change?

The ability to plan and change gives us the power to gain wealth (financial and non-financial) and live with security, but the security we have is nothing if a greater force controls every action man or woman does.

LIFE = SOLVING PROBLEMS

In Self Help on April 15, 2012 at 8:01 pm

Isn’t life about solving problems. I always question my existence and wonder why I am living and breathing. Why do I have to suffer with years and years of education. Why do I have to go to the shop for my mum, nearly every day? Why do I not like certain people? What is my talent? I keep on questioning why I am living and why I do certain things in life, all the time. Then life hits me hard, and I realised why I live. I realised why humans live, and I also realise why humans communicate with each other and why we begin to truly love the people we are close or attached to.

Life is all about SOLVING PROBLEMS.

That is why we live, suffer, face challenges, and feel satisfied at certain times in our life. If life wasn’t about challenges, feeling satisfied and solving problems, our lives would be be pretty pointless and boring. In my previous post, I talked about music and it’s affect on our behaviour. Well music plays and important role of storytelling and spreading ideas and beliefs. That also shows us that people want to express themselves through something they are passionate about. It may be done to make money (satisfaction), may be done to change something (challenge), or may be done as a way of truly expressing ones understanding of world (problem).

Whatever life throws at us, we should take it, analyse it and respond to it appropriately. We should enjoy what we experience, develop on our ideas and creativity, learn from our mistakes and solve the problems that we face in our daily lives.

That is truly living.

TOO MUCH MOTIVATION IS A DISEASE

In Self Help on March 27, 2012 at 6:10 pm

As well as suffering from procrastination, I also suffer from a common disease called ‘too much motivation.’ The effects of this disease is an addictive feeling to rebel and push your boundaries. Never doing the little things in life that design your path of success and ground your motivation, determination and perseverance. The cause of this ‘too much motivation’ disease in being inspired by many notable people who change the world completely and the constant feeling of wanting to be like them (Oprah, Mark Zuckerberg, Steven Spielberg and many others).

And that is it really. I constantly feel motivated and inspired and that affects my performance as an individual.

MY LIFE AND MY DISEASE IN DAILY LIFE

1) I feel like rebelling against the education system and persuing my dream, while educating myself.

2) The feeling to travel and see the culture that exists beyond the textbook.

3) Wanting to talk to people at all times. Including school.

4) Trying to inspire people who don’t want to be inspired or motivated.

5) Chasing my dreams by myself because I am the only one who can fully picture my dream effectively.

6) Questioning everything. Literally everything.

7) Never being easily led by others.

8) Seeing things other people don’t see.

9) Finding an alternative to normal things, everyday people do.

10) GOING CRAZY ONCE IN A WHILE (exertion of love of greatness)

CURE: It is like asking for a cure for cancer. I don’t know. Do you?

IT IS IMPORTANT YOU GET BACK UP

In Self Help on March 11, 2012 at 11:58 pm

In life, so many things will pull you down. What pulls you down will rub you in the dirt, to the point  where you cannot move or don’t have the energy or drive to move. It is important that you get back up and start again. Change you strategy, and start again. If you stay on the floor and accept defeat, you shall never succeed or change your ways. Your perception on life will be simple and basic. You will lack the unique complexity that makes you different from everyone else. You will never make it as a notable person, known for his or her greatness, but as the average person who seems to just get by. You will not have anything to hold by your name or seem significant.  I am not saying being notable is important. I am implying you need to feel greatness within that satisfies you as a human being.

Learn to take a risk or risks. Learn to get back up and try again. Learn to fight criticism. Most importantly, learn how to strategically defeat what holds you back, and come back on top. If you do that, you will be a totally new, better, confident and positive man or woman.

I constantly feel a dip in my own personal drive. I fail at things, I should have passed. I work hard and put myself through hell to get by in school and that seems to present negative outcomes. I have found out that I do work hard. The problem is that I am not working strategically smart. If I learn how to work strategically smart, I will not have to put myself through hell, or stress myself out. And that is what you need to do as fully functioning human beings. Never let anything STOP YOU from doing what you are passionate about.

Good Luck!

THE REASONS I DREAM AND BELIEVE IN OPTIMISM

In Self Help on February 29, 2012 at 12:48 am

In the last couple weeks and months, I have been realising that I love to dream. The fact that I can sleep and think about all the things I want to happen, reflect on what has already happened, and sometimes regret what has happened already, has given me hope in this world. In fact, when I dream and reflect on my life, I inspire myself to realise that I live to do something great on this planet called EARTH. I am in a confusing stage in my life, where I am unsure what I want from life. I don’t exactly know what I want to become. The only things I do know is that I love to write, listen to music, procrastinate, and talk to people for hours on end about things that are pointless. I love to learn about the world, and inspire those that have yet been inspired. I love interacting with other people and getting to know their vibe, and sharing my vibes with them. There is no other way to put it.

I believe that when you set yourself goals in life, you are not only setting aims and objectives, but you are designing your life and shaping your own reality to fit what you see in the world. When I wake up and think to myself ‘Why do I have to go to college?,’ I am realising that I don’t like college but at the same time, I am desiging my future, according to what I feel at that second. Yes, I have dreams and ambitions, but sometimes, in order for me to focus on achieving my dreams and ambitions, I will need to do the things that I don’t particularly like, regardless of how much I hate a specific teacher, or subject matter in my Sociology or Business class. Desiging my world, is only up to me, and I have control of shaping my reality. That is where my optimism kicks in.

I am an optimistic teenage boy. I believe in positivity and feeling good always. I also believe in never focusing on the negatives and concentrating on the positive side of life. If I stay positive and have hope, I believe that whatever I do is destined for greatness.  People constantly tell me that I have too many high hopes and I need to get with reality and stop believing in things that may never happen. They pull me down, and I waste my time trying to justify my reasons to people that are not worth my time, day or voice. If I know I can achieve something, the only thing that is stopping me from achieving my goals is the negative criticism and my own personal belief that I hold to myself. If I control my own personal beliefs, disregard the negative criticism and demand positive criticism from like-minded people, I believe I would do better. Even better, if I control my own mind and interpretations, I believe that nothing will stop me. And forever I will work hard, and continue dreaming till the day comes when I can say I DID IT.

New Years Is Hours Away (London)

In Uncategorized on December 31, 2011 at 8:12 pm

If any of you don’t know, I live in London, so NEW YEARS is round the corner. I have had a good year. I have learned so much about myself. I have made life changing friends, inspirational friends, and friends that I dismiss because as time moves on, people change. Sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse.

I have learned that communication is powerful among us human beings. I have talked with people about shallow things like ‘Is Jay Z a better rapper than Kanye?’. I have talked to people about deep things like politics and if freedom actually exists among us human beings. With everyday going, I have learned that as we grow, we become more intelligent and with positive communication, the world can change completely. In this year, I have realised that in order to do anything you want, you have to work HARD for it. You should never give up and never procrastinate. Never put things off thinking you will do it at a later stage. Just make the most of the time you have. In addition, I have learned that you should take advantage of you talents and your ability to do anything you want in your life.

Right, at this second, I hope to develop knowledge that I can preach to the world and reach the people that I cannot see. I hope to do what is good rather than what seems to be good. I want to do the the right thing always and never say ‘because 2012 start in a few hours, I will start then.’ I would gladly start at this second.

Next year is indeed 2012. That means another year on this planet. We as people should not change ourselves to fit other peoples needs, but become better people within ourselves and hopefully fulfil our own happiness. I believe that we should not wait for greatness but seek greatness within ourselves wherever we can. And that means starting RIGHT now!

HAPPY NEW YEARS TO EVERYONE, ALL OVER THE WORLD!

What I Learned About Structure

In Self Help on December 19, 2011 at 9:55 pm

I recently made a timetable for my college year and realised that structure, and a set and strict timetable are really important when it comes to success in life. You cannot be successful unless you have a structure in place which you follow towards your success. Structure is important because you are planning your actions. Planning, prepares you for success and reduces your chances of failure. That is why there is the saying ‘to fail to prepare, is preparing to fail.’ That immediately means structure and planning makes you more successful than the other individual that doesn’t prepare or structure correctly.

I took structure and planning for granted through out my whole life till I realised that my grades in school weren’t adding up. My English grade was below my expected. If you looked at my writing, you would assume the curriculum got my papers wrong with someone else’s. I am good at English and have potential, but my structure for work is wrong, not my knowledge or understanding of the concepts. I need to plan my work and plan it well so that my success is satisfying my interpretation of what success means to me. (If you are wondering, the letter A is what I call success). I did well in some subjects and did not so good in others this term in school. My structure for learning is a total fail, period. My latest post on TheLookoutDiary, ‘Am I The Only One That Hates Multitasking In School?’ is about not wanting to multi-task but what I have learned, is that multi-tasking only works when your structure is well thought out, and implemented according to your plan.

My mother and grandfather pushed and pushed and pushed me until I made a structured timetable for my life. Since I started going by my timetable, I have practically forgotten about prioritising school subjects and giving each subject, the same amount of time and attention. I NOW FEEL MY BEST.

Do you ever wonder why you can do different subjects in school one after the other, and not feel like you are missing out on one subject compared to the other? The reason you feel so at ease when you are at school, is because a structure has been put in place to help you go through school with ease. That is what you have to do for yourself, when you are at home. If you are ever faced with so many things to do in your life, make a plan, make a structure that works for you, and stick by it and if you do, you will be successful. It doesn’t have to be work or at work by the way. It could just  be your life as a whole.
